Quick tips to boost Twitter growth

Twitter has over 300 million active users every month posting over 500 million tweets every day. For small to medium sized businesses, 93% of their followers plan to actually buy their products or services. Twitter also provides a customer service platform as 85% of small to medium business followers expect strong support from them on the site. These statistics make it clear as to why Twitter should be an essential part of your social media marketing strategy.

Here are some quick tips to ensure your business is taking full advantage of the social network.

The Magic 100

With 280 characters to convey your message, making sure you keep to the right length is just as valuable as the content itself. Shorter and punchier tweets have a longer lasting impact which will maximise the effect of your message and encourage retweets and favourites. According to a Twitter for Business, tweets with less than 100 characters received 17% more engagement because it allowed users to add their own comments after retweeting. Buddy Media analysed that the right length will result in greater engagement from your followers and help improve your visibility for potential customers on the network.

As with almost all other major social media sites, hashtags are a vital way to reach more people and increase your visibility. An analysis revealed that tweets with hashtags are 33% more likely to be retweeted than those without. Use hashtags which are relevant, smart and funny to encourage your followers to adapt them. This will ultimately create an identity for your business and boost your online popularity, therefore reaching more potential customers.

Frequency of Tweets

Too much of anything can make you sick, and that’s no exception for your followers. Therefore it is best to keep to a regular rhythm of tweets rather than constantly bombarding your followers. By focusing on the quality of your tweets, your content will strike a higher value to users and therefore keep them absorbed and engaged. Posting many tweets a day could result in fatigue from your followers to the point they subconsciously ignore them. If you want to maximise engagement and response from your followers, tweet between 1 to 5 times a day.

As well as the content of your tweets, adding visuals such as images, GIFs and even videos will help boost engagement and retention from your followers, thereby increasing your visibility on the platform. According to Buffer, Tweets with images received 89% higher favourites as well as 150% more retweets than those without.
Tweets with images also received 18% more clicks than those without, however, this is a small difference. It has been theorised that Twitter prioritises content tweets with inline images as it increases content consumption.
